“We purpose in a short time
giving illustrated designs for textile fabrics, and shall also illustrate
special artistic productions of our manufacturers. Lace and embroidery work,
though carried on now as domestic industries in scattered districts throughout
the country, will from their interesting character, command notice, and be
carefully watched with every desire to promote the art needlework of Ireland. From
the various localities where this work is produced we cordially invite
correspondence, being desirous of placing before our readers the many merits of
this most interesting class [of] cottage industries, and thereby stimulate a
much larger demand for these productions” (1:1 introduction).
